Exposure Assessment and Monitoring

These studies are investigating when and where people are exposed to air pollution, and how we can better monitor and evaluate this exposure.  The current focus is on traffic related air pollutants, both regulated such as nitrogen dioxide, and emerging such as ultrafine particulate matter.  We are using long-term field monitoring at near-road sites, short campaigns at many sites across Toronto, and land use regression or dispersion models to explore and understanding the temporal and spatial variability of exposure to traffic related air pollutants.  Further we are developing inexpensive and compact air quality monitors to allow individuals to evaluate and manage their exposure to air pollutants.
