Sara earned her undergraduate and master’s degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Waterloo. During her studies, she acquired extensive knowledge in the application of membrane processes for drinking water and tertiary wastewater treatment. Driven by a deep interest in membrane processes, she pursued a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at the University of Toronto, where she was under the guidance of Prof. Ramin Farnood and Dr. Shahram Tabe. Her doctoral research focused on the innovative development of adsorptive ultrafiltration (UF) membranes for nutrient recovery from wastewater.

Maintaining her passion for membrane technology, Sara recently joined Prof. Werber’s research group as a Postdoctoral Researcher in May 2023. Her current work revolves around the advancement of high-pressure reverse osmosis (HPRO) membranes in collaboration with researchers from SUEZ Water Technologies and Solutions (SUEZ WTS). Additionally, she is engaged in the development of membrane supports for bipolar membrane electrodialysis, with the goal of enhancing ocean alkalinity.
